I normally use the BirdLog NA app from BirdsEye Birding for tracking my bird sightings, predominately since it reports directly to eBird which then tracks my lifelist and allows me to generate a variety of reports as to my activity. But having heard several folks recommend the Lifebirds Journal app, I thought I would give it a try as well.
One feature I was looking for was the ability to export the data in a format which I could then process into my own database, thereby allowing me to create additional reports, or to embed the database in a website such as this one.
After using the app for a few days, I am generally happy with it. However, as I am on holiday for Veteran's Day today, I was logging the birds in the front feeders, and while searching for birds I noticed that occasionally the search doesn't perform as well as I expect.
For instance, while searching to add a Northern Cardinal to the list today, I typed in the first few characters and noticed that the app had no recommendations after I typed the first few characters of the name, although as you can see from the image, the iPhone itself knew what I was looking for.

Searching for Cardinal
I checked through the settings to ensure I didn't have some unusual area of the world set as the default search list, but that was okay, so going back to the unfiltered list, I made sure the cardinal was actually listed, and it was. I'm not entirely sure why the app could not find the species in question, but I will report the issue to the developers to see if they have an idea.

Cardinal in List
Hopefully this is an easy fix for them, or me, if I am doing something incorrectly.
Happy Birding!
