Peanut Feeder - Followup

Well, the peanut feeder mentioned previously has lately been under attack by the Tufted Titmice (Baeolophus bicolor) in the yard. While I haven't seen any Blue Jays (Cyanocitta cristata) on this feeder, they have been around.

Anyway, it appeared as if most of the peanuts had been attacked on one end, so it was time to change out the contents. My initial plan was to crack open the shells, remove the remaining peanuts and to then place them in one of the regular feeders. So I emptied the feeder contents onto a board to begin the process.

The Previous Contents

Well imagine my surprise when, after checking all of those peanuts I found that only two actually had any contents. Despite there being a hole in only one end of the shells, the birds had apparently managed to get both peanuts out of the shell through that single hole.

Nothing like a little bird engineering to bring a smile. The feeder is now full, and they are back at it.
